01What Lawnsy is
Lawnsy is a marketplace MVP: customers book lawn services, providers deliver them. At launch it covers four categories — lawn care, gardening, weed removal, and snow removal — in Metro Detroit. Like any marketplace, the product lives or dies on one thing: both sides trusting what the app says it does.
That trust requirement shaped every decision about where AI was allowed to work and where it wasn't.
02Where AI genuinely accelerated
Three lanes, and AI was genuinely useful in all of them:
Scaffolding
AI is fast at producing the structural bulk of a product — screens, components, and boilerplate that would take a human developer days to keystroke into existence. For an MVP, speed through scaffolding is the difference between shipping and stalling.
Research
Marketplace work runs on research: provider economics, seasonal demand, pricing patterns. AI compresses the digging phase — finding sources, summarizing industry material, structuring findings — so the human starts from a draft of the landscape instead of a blank page.
Content drafts
Launch content — landing copy, article drafts, service descriptions — starts life as an AI draft. The key word is draft. Nothing goes public in its AI-generated form.
Every AI output lands behind a human review gate. A second agent reviews the work before anything goes public — every time, no exceptions. The AI does the first pass; humans do the last word.
03The split: AI owns / human owns
We run a hard responsibility split. It looks like this:
Volume and velocity
- Scaffolding screens and components
- Research gathering and summarization
- First drafts of content and copy
- Repetitive structural work behind the scenes
Judgment and truth
- Product-model fidelity — nothing contradicts how the app actually works
- Public-facing copy — final approval before anything ships
- Second-agent review gate on all AI output
- Every decision a customer or provider will rely on
The green lane is where AI saves time. The red-amber lane is where a wrong word costs you a provider, a customer, or your credibility — and AI never works there alone.
04Build log: how the MVP actually got made
05Where human judgment stayed non-negotiable
Two areas, and this is the part most "built with AI" stories skip.
Product-model fidelity
Lawnsy's real mechanics are specific: providers set their own prices. Payment is cash, directly between customer and provider — there is no in-app payment and no escrow. Communication outside the app is allowed. An AI draft once advised the exact opposite — in-app-only communication and credit-card payment — and a review caught it before it shipped. A wrong claim about your own product model doesn't read as a typo to users. It reads as dishonesty. This is why the human gate exists.
Public-facing copy
Anything a customer or provider reads — the app store listing, service descriptions, launch announcements — gets human eyes and a second-agent review before it goes out. AI drafts are drafts. The company's voice, and the accuracy of its promises, are decided by people.
Standing practice, not a slogan
The second-agent review isn't a one-off check. It's a standing practice on this build: AI output never reaches the public without passing a separate review. Boring, unglamorous, and exactly why it works.
06The honest limits
Because honesty is the point of this post, here are the limits, stated plainly:
The capability this demonstrates isn't "AI built an app." It's AI-assisted product builds done responsibly: faster through the green lane, gated through the red one, honest about which is which.
